I was just wondering what you folks do to shield your birds from the effects of cold weather. I provide mine with a draft free area to roost and some good gamecock grain along with their regular ration. I also keep fresh water in the pens. Plastic is installed on the wire portions of the runs to break the wind.

barry. it looks like you are doing the right things for your birds. keeping the cold air off of them is the most important. i do everything you posted you do. they will be fine.

Here in Southeast Louisiana it doesn't seem to get cold enough to harm them with the cold alone. But we do get our share of rain year round and when you have that combination of cold and wet it can be deadly. If I manage to keep them and there environment dry the cold does not bother them.

I really have more luck with outside birds looking and doing better than I do in the barn.If I get one looking unthrifty I have found the best thing to do with them is move them outdoors in a sheltered pen and some sunlight.Sometimes the temps get to zero here and the birds are fine with water and feed there for them. Sometimes it is hard to keep them with water that is not ice though.

Well I learned a lesson about Mo It was 55 decrees one day and that night it dropped to-12I lost a couple birds I believe it was caused by the big weather change if it would have come on gradual I don't think it would have bothered them so much

Lost a whole hatch of 1 month old Blue Wheatens this week forgot to close down the flaps and the heat lamps just couldn't keep the grow out pen warm enough. Dang the luck
