I don't use anything but the wood so I would not be the best to tell you. I just use the fine shavings and the chickens eat some and poop in the rest.

Has anyone ever used a shop-vac to clean their pens out? I'm talking about inside conditioning pens. I was wondering if this might save some time? and be a little easier.

I have used a shop vac to finish cleaning out my breeding pens after I shovel out the bulky part of the shavings. It works well to get the dust out of the corners.

I use a dust pan to get the shavings out. I have used a shop vac before when the cobb webs were bad.

I usually go right back with wood shavings and can get most all out with a small dust pan i bought at the dollar store.A shop vack will work great if you need to get it that clean.

I use a short plastic coal type shovel I found at the Hardware store works great for cleaning pens and my garage.
