Well so far so good on the barrel pens got them in an area where they are shaded 95% of the day and they seem to be doing fine. Stuck some early hatch cockerels in them and they are growing out just as good as the ones in the other pens. Seem to have stubled on to something here.

Thanks Randal. I've thought about doing that myself.

Barry I cut a 12"x10" door in one end and a 4"x barrel width hole in back took 1"x2" boards and a pocket hole jig and made frames for the openings. closing the back off with 1" coated poultry wore and using 2"x4" welded wire for doors. The feed cups can be placed outside but I have mine hanging on the inside of barrell. Only problem I have is the waterers that I bought do not seem to work well. They are the bottle type that hang out side they don't fit up to the doors so I still have a lil modification left. When I can get them want to put the little automatic water cups of nipple drinkers. I have sand for floors with exceptions of 2 test pens using shavings. I then built a frame out of 4x4 post and 2x6's, underneath the shade trees. So far I am Happy about it. Again as soon as I can get pics I will.
