Ok guys, I'm setting up my pens for my breeder birds and thought I would start a thread where you guys can tell us how you are setting up your brood pens, how many varieties, pair mate, flock mate, etc. etc. The reason why I am starting this is because on one of my varieties that I am raising I set up 7 brood pens. I'm thinking do I really need this many brood pens. My biggest problem is hatching off more than I have room for but it is like a drug to me. I'm addicted. I need help!

Here is mine:

SDW's - 8 brood pens

GDW's - 2 brood pens

Lem.Blue - 7 brood pens

Red Pyles - 4 brood pens

I'm thinking I need to cut the lemon blues back to about 3 pens.

Ernie I hear ya , how many females do have with each male that some times can mae the difference. I use trios and some times quads but I always put sisters in the same brood pen.I like to single mate when I cross varieties to make my bsdw or br. Single mating you can have mor brood pens .

All of my SDW's single mated. My lemons are pair mated, trio's. and 1 quad. I know it's too many. too many birds, too many varieties. LOL....where does it end.

I will set up 8-10 brood pens of BB Reds this year and I don't think that it will be too many.

I really don't know where it ends. I want to have all my hatching done by 1st of may so I have put toghther 5 bsdw pens all with at least 3 females ,3 br, 1 brassy back 2 red quill, and as soon as the Atoka show is over i will puttting 3 more bsdw pens and 1 more blue red. I will then change some of them up in March if I get what i want early. I said I wasn't going to do all this again this year but llike Black I just can't help myself. CHOCTAW BANTAMS

I got my pens setup, 6 bb red and 6 silver duckwing . This is my favorite part of chickens, hatching them and watching them grow.
