I guess I figured my issue out - I hatched 20 out of 23 today!

What was the solution to your problem?

Incubation is definitely affected by a lot of different factors. The first thing I would check is the wafer. These should be replaced each year. If that is okay, then I would check the thermostat and thermometer.

The location of the incubator is also critical. Is it in a barn or outbuilding where you get big temperature variations? If so, you will have a difficult time getting good hatches until you can stabilize the incubator temperature.

My machines are in a 8x12 insulated well house. My temps stay very constant. I will have to adjust as the outside temp gets higher - but so far everything is staying where it should. Humidity is very constant too - storms of course will make the humidity increase, but that is easily adjusted.
My thermometers were my issue this time! Sometimes you have to hunt for the problem - this time it was well hidden, but an easy fix.

Seems that many are not getting very good hatches this year. I've been reading the various posts but I think that folks need to post more information so that others can help with suggestions. I have had very good hatches averaging 85%.

My hatches have benn really up and down. Will have good hatches for 3 weeks then one week poor. HMMMMMM I wonder if the moon phase has anything to do with hatchability since it seems to happen once a month?

Iam getting 90% hatch from my bgdw and my gdw, but only a 20 to 30% hatch from my quail and red quill. Last year my rq and btb were my best hatches . This is all done in the same bator and hatcher.
Some are piping and dying but most are fully developed but just not hatching. they just appear to be to weak to hatch.

Things have picked up considerably for me. As of right now, I have 112 hatched and I just loaded the hatcher with 48 eggs to go off on the 27th. I may load the bator 1 more time with some female line birds, blacks and red pyles, but after that I think I will quit.

You missed my other post. I was looking at the wrong set of eggs. I've got a gqf and a rolex. It was the rolex's turn to go in the hatcher. 77 eggs.
