Has anyone had chicks hatch early? I have had a few start on day 19 and hatch on day 20.

Usually mine hatch out on the 20th day and are complete by the 21st day. Your temperature may be a little too high.

I agree with Barry, when chicks are coming early the temp is probably a little too high. I loaded some in the hatcher last night (19th day) and I had a few that were beginning to pip.

If you are getting good hatches and they are pipping on the 19th day I would not mess with it. Rather see that then to see them just pipping on the 21st day. If you are not getting good hatches then lower 1 degree and wait till next hatch to see what happens before readjusting. Seen some strange things this year with the Opals. They are in the same incubator with everything else so I know it ain't temperature. The Opals will pip and sometimes be completely out on the 19th day while everything else is on schedule. Can't explain that one but the early hatched opals are very vigorous and healthy. Have seen no ill effects from it. This looked like a good place to share that with you guys. Wayne

The strange thing is the early hatch was White oeg and the other eggs set the same time were BB Red. Do fresher eggs tend to hatch earlier than older ones?
I think my temperature is ok, I hatch some Buff Orphingtons for my daughter 11 out of 12 hatched right on time the 12th egg turned out to not be fertile. I just wish I could get that kinda of percentage rate on my OEGB!

I have seen this some. I have no problem with that as long as hatching percentage is satisfactory in my book.

Kjundog, thats funny because I've had the same thing with the brown reds this year, same bator and hatcher. Done by the 19th day and very vigorous.

I was blaming it on the Opals and them just having that strain cross vigor because Carl Jarvis told me he is seeing the same thing with his Opals. I set and hatch eggs every Saturday and have started putting eggs down to the hatching tray on Wednesday, the 18th day just to make sure nothing that hatches early will get mixed up and I cannot identify it to the mating. I would rather see early then late and dragging on. I see much more sticky or crippled chicks with late hatches.

I've seen it in mine also that later hatched chicks are not doing as well as early hatched. Same on the feet as well. I set and hatch on Saturdays and put in the hatcher and candle the 4 day incubated eggs on Wednesdays seems to work well for me, have a little over 200 hatched.

Forgot to mention that I only had 1 brown red hen and when she was mated to the brown red roo is when the eggs hatched early, have a lemon blue over her now and their hatching with the others.
