I have heard the size of you birds will depend on the time of the year you hatch them, is there any truth to this?

To a certain extent yes. Early hatch birds are sometimes larger. While late hatched birds in the summer may stay smaller. Of coarse they are genetically the same and will breed according to their genetics. If you want true breeding small birds you gotta select it in the genes and make them smaller thru genetic selection. This is how I understand it to be anyway.

My father-in-law say that on certain breeds such as his rosecombs that you can show male and females out of. Most of the show males will be the early birds and the females later because of their size will be smaller the later they hatch. Generally speaking.

most of the time anything hatched after may, will not develop well. male line for sure. alot of breeders will try to hatch out thier female line in late may early june. females need around 7 months to finish, males need 8 months or longer!!!!
