I see some exhibitors spraying their birds with various kinds of "sheen spray" one that turned out to be WD 40. I don't use
any spray but everyone for what works for them. When judging I
sometimes handle birds that feel like they have been sprayed
with syrup or something very sticky. Just don't see what advantage this gives a bird. That stickiness has to attract dust and dirt. Your thoughts?

Good point, thanks for sharing. I have used the olive oil spray hopeing to magnify the sheen on my birds but after a couple of seasons of showing I cant say that it really has helped me in any way?

I've tried all kinds of sprays and find that most make the feathers limp and soft. I quit using them.

we use a gun cloth, spray alittle pink on the cloth and wipe the dust off the bird. to much will mat the feathers down, making the bird look wet.

I do the same as tater. Just to get the dust off and spray the legs and rub the pink spray in. It may be my mind playing tricks on me but it seems that the "stuff" they step in comes off the feet/legs easier after being sprayed. I have tried some other spray we used on show pigs and that left the feathers tacky, so I never used it again. Never tried WD40
